Course Description:

This course is designed to provide participants with an understanding of advanced DMM functions, DSO (Digital Storage Oscilloscope) set-up, operation, measurement and waveform analysis. Participants will receive both lecture and hands-on instruction that focus on the use of DSOs to diagnose electrical and electronic circuit failures.

Course Topics:

• Frequency, duty cycle and pulse width

• Spike suppression

• Min/max fuctions (DMM)

• Diode and capacitor testing

• Oscilloscope set-up

• Voltage and time selection

• Current probes

• Obtaining waveforms

• Waveform analysis

Hands-on Activities: 

• Measure frequency, duty cycle and pulse width

• Connect a DSO to the vehicle

• Select proper voltage and time selections

• Obtain and save waveforms

• Analyze data to determine needed repairs

• Perform DSO specific tests
