Course Description:

This course covers EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment), electric vehicle charging systems, charge levels, types, and vehicle connection. Emphasis will be placed on; communication between vehicle and charger, circuit inspection using digital multimeters and oscilloscopes, and “no-charge” diagnosis. Participants will receive both lecture and hands-on instruction.

• Basic Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) system operation 

• Requirements for EVSE installation

• Charger types and charge levels

• AC and DC charging

• Common EVSE charge cable connectors

• Charge rate and time calculations

• Factors affecting charge rate

• Proximity Pilot circuit operation

• Control Pilot circuit operation

• Circuit inspection and testing using digital multimeters and DSO’s

• Vehicle on-board chargers

• Diagnosing “no-charge” concerns

Hands-on Activities:

• Learn to use EVSE test equipment

• Measure Control Pilot Circuit signals

• Measure Proximity Pilot Circuit signals

• Identify charger types and charge rates

• Verify GFCI circuit integrity

• Measure EVSE supply voltage to vehicle
